Common Blue Butterfly
Males have bright blue wings with a brown border and white fringe. Females are brown with a blue ‘dusting’. Both have orange spots on their undersides.

Peacock Butterfly
When alarmed, the peacock is able to make a hissing noise by rubbing its wings quickly together. Coupled with its huge eyespots, it becomes a scary prospect for would-be predators.
When: January-December

Red Admiral Butterfly
Most red admirals are migrants to the UK from North Africa and continental Europe, arriving in spring and laying eggs that hatch from July onwards. But some adults manage to survive the winter by hibernating here.
